Makoro Chickens is a 100% citizen owned Poulty farm and abattoir located in the Central district of Botswana approximatly 240KM north of the capital city Gaborone. The company was established in 2004 and currently employs 32 people. Its major products being whole chicken, chicken pieces and offals.
Located 15km South of Palapye and 2.5km off the Gaborone-Francistown highway. The 80 hectare farm enjoys a pleasant location with room for expansion. Around the farm are smaller, not- fully-utilised plots of about 20 hectare each. These are possible areas of expansion should the land become smaller for the present vision. The business is centrally located making it strategically important to serve as a distribution point or centre to all corners of the country.
The farm has 4 (90x10m) open sided houses. The houses are all cement floored with zinc roofing. Each house is fitted with bell drinker system and coal heat system where a furnace is lit outside and hot air blown inside the houses through tubes. One furnace is connected to two houses. The feeding system employed is that of chain feeders. Each house has a 10 tonne feed silo that feeds chain feeders installed in the houses. The litter used ranges from wood shavings, grass to sunfower stocks, with a stocking density of 14-17 birds per square meter, (which is high for the prevailing conditions though each house is placed from 12000-15000 chicks)

The farm has its own slaughter house. The current one has a capacity of 10 000 birds a day. The abattoir has two blast freezers and two 30 tonne freezers. After slaughtering the product, processing and packaging are done before dispatching to its customers. Expansion either on present premises or within the farm can very easily be achieved.
